Meet Our Dietitain, Brooke Tresch, RD
Our Registered Dietitian, Brooke Tresch, RD, adds another dimension to our dining program by working with our campus community to encourage healthy lifestyles and to help individuals become more comfortable in their dining environment at Shenandoah University. Brooke is Allertrain and ServSafe Certified. She has extensive experience in medical nutrition therapy from her previous work in clinical dietetics. She is available to all students for free nutrition counseling, as well as to help students navigate the dining halls with a variety of disease states and allergies/food intolerances. Do I need to purchase a Meal Plan?
Yes! It's a great value and it is Shenandoah University's policy that all students living on campus purchase a meal plan each semester.
I live off campus. Can I have a Meal Plan?
Absolutely! You may purchase any Meal Plan. You must order your meal plan online for each Academic Year by completing the online Commuter Enrollment Form or calling Hornet Central at (540)665-4514.
How do I purchase a Meal Plan?
Students living on campus select their Meal Plan as part of the housing selection process each Academic Year. Commuters may purchase a meal plan by contacting Hornet Central at (540)665-4514.
What are Flex Dollars?
Flex Dollars are cash values included in select meal plans. They work like a pre-paid debit card with funds kept on your Hornet Card. Flex may be used at any on-campus dining location, as well as a variety of off-campus establishments that are listedon our website. 15-Meal Plan and 19-Meal Plan are preloaded with $50 Flex. 50-Block Meal Plan comes with $75.
What are Hornet Dollars?
Hornet Dollars are money that can be added to a student's account to be used on the Hornet Card. This money remains in the account until no funds remain. If there are remaining funds upon graduating, please contact Auxillary Services to request a refund.
How do I add Flex or Hornet Dollars to my account?
You can add Flex or Hornet Dollars by contacting Hornet Central at (540)665-5571.
How many Meal Swipes do I have left?
You can check your available balance at the registers when swiping your meal card or asking the cashier to do an inquiry without having to make a purchase.
I am a parent, family member or friend. Can I add cash to a student's meal plan?

Can I buy a Birthday cake or gift for my roommate or friend?

I have specific eating requirements. I am a vegetarian or vegan, have food sensitvities and/or allergies. Do you have options for me?
Yes! We have many options, and we add more every semester. In fact, many items are added based on requests from students. All of our dining locations regularly have menu options that are made with Vegan, Vegetarian, and Gluten Free ingredients that are clearly identified on our signage. Visit our Simple Servings station at the Allen Dining Hall, all dishes feature foods made without milk, eggs, wheat, soy, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, and gluten for people with food allergies, gluten intolerance, or other special dietary needs.We take pride in serving you wholesome ingredients, preparing recipes accurately and providing nutritional analysis and ingredient statements through our online menus and nutrition calculator. From our general manager to our front line servers, we work carefully to address food allergies, celiac diets, or other special dietary needs.We recommend that students with special dietary needs communicate with our General manager, Executive Chef, and/or District Dietician. In many instances, our dining team can easily assist with special needs. Shenandoah Dining also provides a dietitian who can assist you with your nutrition needs for your specific circumstances.
